How to fix slow Xbox One download speeds

Check your Xbox One internet connection

If your Xbox One download speeds are slow, the first step is to check your connection. This will show you the amount of speed, packet loss and latency your Xbox currently has. To check the connection:

  1. Open the Settings app on your Xbox.Find the Network tab.
  2. Find the Network tab.Select Network Settings.
  3. Select Network Settings.
  4. Select Test network speed & statistics.
  5. Wait for your connection to be checked. Once it is done, you’ll see the speeds, packet loss and latency values displayed on the screen.

If you regularly check your connection and notice that you’re experiencing download speeds much slower than the speeds you pay for from your internet provider, there may be a problem with your connection. You can follow the rest of our tips for speeding up your Xbox One downloads to see if your connection improves. Download Faster With a Wired Connection

Often a wired internet connection can provide faster upload and download speeds than using Wi-Fi despite how convenient the latter method is.

To connect your Xbox One console to the internet via a wired connection, plug one end of an Ethernet cable into your internet router and the other into the Ethernet port on the rear of the console.

The Xbox One automatically connects to a wired connection and prioritizes it over any previously used Wi-Fi connections so there's no need to manually enter or delete any settings.

Disable Internet Connections On Other Devices

If other devices in your home, such as your computer, laptop, or smartphone, use the same internet connection as your Xbox One, this can also cause slow download speeds.

To speed up the download of a video game or app on your console, it's worth disconnecting all of your devices from the internet for the duration of the download.

It might not seem like your phone or computer is using up much data but you never know when a device might start installing app or OS updates or syncing files to cloud services such as Dropbox, OneDrive, or Google Drive.

Avoid using your Xbox One during peak times

There are certain times throughout the day when a lot of people are trying to use the internet at the same time. Unless you have a fiber internet connection, it’s likely that you will experience slower download speeds during these peak internet traffic times. This happens because you share bandwidth with your neighbors and other internet users that subscribe to your ISP. If it fits into your schedule, try gaming during less busy parts of the day. You can also download games during off-peak hours to speed up the process.
